Game of the Day
Game Developer Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. I have an idea for a game, do I need to have a demo to show you?

A. No, you can submit it to us as just an idea. However, if you have a working demo, and can send a link to it, all the better.

Q. What’s the process for choosing a game you will fund. Do you pick submissions from a hat or is it only people you already know?

A. Our management team meets weekly to go over the game ideas submitted. Each team member has a checklist of criteria we use to evaluate a game idea. We look for things like:

Does the game idea potentially appeal to a large group of people who already have an interest in the subject?
Does it sound like the controls can be very simple to operate? eg Just click and move the mouse vs, press ctl shift +7, then hop on 1 leg, while balancing the controller on your head, to turn.
Does it sound like it can be built in 12 weeks or less?
Is the game unique?
Does it sound like fun?
Do we think it will sell well in the Casual Game Space?
After we go over the checklist, those having enough Yes’s are moved into the Yes pile. Notes are made on each game idea and stored in our database, where the submitter has access to see the comments and status of an idea. (Coming soon)

Once moved into the Yes pile, it makes it to a 2 nd meeting where we discuss the merits of each game and its team via a conference call to the submitter. After the call, we discuss the call among ourselves and vote if it should be funded. If we have a majority of yes’s, it is moved to the Supply Funding Pile. We hold a Launch Meeting weekly and in accordance with our budget, we choose a certain number of projects from the Supply Funding Pile. This is typically on a first in, first out basis.

Q. It says you pay $1,000 a week. Is that per person on the team or do I get one check and have to divvy it up amongst other teammates.

A. We PayPal one check a week for a $1,000 to the Team Lead (The person who sent us the idea). If that’s you, then its up to you to handle any arrangements you have with others who help you build the game. You should probably sign a contract with them in advance. Here are some samples you might use to protect yourselves and your teammates. (Disclaimer, we are not your lawyer and you should probably consult one before entering any agreement). (Samples link Coming Soon)

Q. I have a game already built or close to complete. How can you guys help me?

A. Un-BOG-funded games may be published through BOG, providing a greater royalty to the developer. We might also fund completion at a different royalty rate.

Q. Can I use other peoples assets?

A. Only if you have been given the rights to do so by them. You should obtain written permission from the owners or if you hire others to do work for you. Check out these sample Contracts (Ed’s Link Here). By submitting any source or assets to BOG, you attest that you are the original creator (or you have obtained written permission from the owners to allow you to use it as if it were your own when dealing with BOG), the work is original, free from viruses and you have not issued rights to the work to others,.

Q. Will I own the game if BOG funds it?

A. Yes. However, by accepting funding from BOG, you grant BOG a 3 Year exclusive right to publish your game through its various channels, and a perpetual non-exclusive right to publish it thereafter, in exchange for the royalty structure defined on this site. You also grant BOG the right to use the source and assets from your game or any part thereof in any other game or media BOG may create, provided we recognize you for the work in the game credits and compensate your according to our Contract Addendum terms.

Q. If BOG funds my game, can I sell my game elsewhere?

A. Within 3 years from the date of release, all distributions of the game must go through BOG’s payment processor and be subject to the royalty structure set forth on this site. After that, it may be distributed by you in any means you like. At any time from the date of release, you may help promote the game by using the links BOG provides for distribution and payment processing. You can add the links to your website or elsewhere, so long as you do not partake in spamming or other activities that may be considered damaging to BOG as determined by BOG in its sole discretion.. So don’t go putting the links on porn or hate sites please.

Q. How much can I make?

A. Our royalty structure is based on a sliding scale. The more sales you get, the greater royalty rate you earn. To learn more, submit your game idea and we will get back to you with a detailed proposal when we decide to move forward.

Q. I built my game using my own Engine or some other toolset you didn’t recommend. Can I still work with you?

A. Yes, possibly. Contact us with the details.

Q. How do you market my game?

A. Our Dedicated Marketing Staff works diligently at efficiently and effectively massively marketing games, utilizing:

Q. What if I have a game idea I know will take longer than 12 weeks to develop. Do you fund those and how long will you allow?

A. Though not our core focus, we are interested in funding games that may take longer than 12 weeks to develop. When you submit your idea for an extended game development project, let us know how long you estimate it would take you to complete it.

Q. What if I accept a 12 week contract offer from BOG and don’t finish my game in the 12 weeks?

A. BOG will do everything in it's power to support the developers in keeping to the agreed upon schedule and budget. If a developer defaults on their contract, BOG retains the right to renegotiate the schedule/budget with the original developer, cancel development of the game, or finish development of the game using other resources. In any event, BOG retains publishing rights for the game as specified in the contract, with the following changes. If you have reached a predetermined number of milestones but defaulted on your contract and BOG publishes your game anyway, you will still be eligible for royalties but at half the agreed upon payout, and, your eligibility for royalties will be delayed until additional development expenses have been recouped by BOG. We don’t really want that to happen, but we also can’t afford to have projects run over budget or beyond the schedule. We are looking for dedicated teams only who want to Bang Out Games.

Q. What if its week 4 and I have a vacation planned that I don’t want to miss and I can’t make progress on the game for a couple weeks?

A. Let us know at the time you submit your game, when you can begin working on an uninteruppted 12 week schedule. If we approve your submission, you can begin development at the time you told us you could start, which would obviously be after your vacation. However, once you start developemnet under the contract and accept the first payment, we expect results and, should you fail to make progress in any given week within the set schedule, we may terminate the contract for non-performance. So plan ahead, we want you to succeed, on time.

Q. What if finish my game in 8 weeks or even 4 weeks for that matter. Do I get the full 12 week payments?

A. No, However, your game will likely be published that much sooner, opening up the potential larger royalty payments sooner and allow you to move on to another casual game you want to bang out.

Q. Who sets the price for my game and at what rate?

A. BOG sets the price in its sole discretion during the 1st 3 years from release. You may offer it at any price thereafter. Typically we will offer it at $19.99 US the first year and drop it considerably after that. But depending on the game, the market, or periodic promotions, we may offer it at first for $4.99 or less. As well, we may increase the price according to demand. We obviously want to make the most we can for you and BOG.

Q. How do you monitor progress of my Game?

A. You submit your source code, assets and a build to us each week and our developers and QA examine it and compare it to the prior week. If we see little progress, we’ll likely pull the plug.

Q. How can I get one of those cool hats you guys wear?

A. Click here to order one Get The Hat!
